Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor, journalist and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. As a child with her family in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She joined the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was made general reporter by NBC News a year later. Beginning in 1981, she began covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has appeared as a guest on TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist as well as host. She was on the panel in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for her outstanding performance in the field of journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her efforts to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first reported on the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988 throughout both Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell covered a broad range of notable stories, including the Iran-contra case and tax reform. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan throughout his numerous trips to world summits and reported frequently.
